Short version: we collect very little, we don't sell it, and we don't share it for ads.
What we collect
- Things you search for. ZIP lookups and "use my location" run entirely in your browser. We don't receive your ZIP or coordinates.
- Feedback buttons. Your "Was this info right?" answer is kept in your browser's local storage so the question doesn't repeat. It isn't sent to us.
- Email. If you send a correction or question, it goes from your own email app to hello@wheretosled.com. We get your email address and whatever you write, and use it only to reply and fix the listing.
- Server logs. Our host, Cloudflare, processes standard request data (IP address, browser type, page requested, time) to deliver pages and block abuse. We don't use it to identify you.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful. It sets analytics cookies, and Google processes data such as your IP address, device and pages viewed, under Google's privacy policy. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We turn off ad personalization and Google signals. You can block analytics with the Google opt-out add-on, any common blocker, or your browser's settings. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, the analytics script does not load at all.
Third parties
- Maps. Map tiles load from OpenStreetMap servers, which see your IP address like any site you visit.
- Amazon affiliate links. Where to Sled is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program that lets sites earn fees by linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. When you click an Amazon link, Amazon and other third parties may serve content and ads, collect information directly from you, and place or recognize cookies in your browser to track the referral. That happens on Amazon's side under the Amazon Privacy Notice. You can limit this by blocking third-party cookies, and you can opt out of interest-based ads at optout.aboutads.info and Amazon's ad preferences.
- Source links. Park, city and news sites we link to have their own policies.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA)
In the last 12 months, the only personal information we may have collected is: identifiers (email address if you write to us; IP address in host logs), and internet activity (pages viewed, through analytics). We collect it from you and your browser, for running the site, answering mail, fixing listings, and counting visits.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. We don't collect sensitive personal information.
You have the right to know what we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to opt out of sale or sharing (which we don't do). We won't treat you differently for using these rights. Email hello@wheretosled.com with "Privacy request" in the subject. We may ask you to confirm the email address you used so we only release data to the right person. An authorized agent can make a request for you with your written permission. We answer within 45 days.
Other states and countries
If you live somewhere else with privacy rights (such as Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut, or the EU and UK), the same request process applies and we will honor the rights your law gives you.
Children
This site is meant for adults planning outings, including with kids. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you think a child sent us something, email us and we'll delete it.
How long we keep things
Correction emails are kept as long as needed to handle them and keep a record of changes, usually no more than two years. Analytics data is set to expire after 14 months.
Changes
If this notice changes, we'll update the date at the top.
